Ensure your school is compliant with our new KCSIE 2026 self-review
With Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2026 now in force, schools and colleges are working through what the updated guidance means for their safeguarding arrangements. Reading the guidance is one part of that process. Being able to show what is in place, where the evidence sits and what still needs attention can be a much bigger job. To help, NetSupport has launched a free KCSIE 2026 Compliance Self-Review Tool, giving schools, colleges and trusts a practical way to review their current safeguarding arrangements and bring the supporting evidence together.
Review KCSIE 2026 section by section
The self-review takes users through 16 areas of KCSIE 2026 and more than 100 checkpoints, covering areas including leadership and governance, the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), staff training, online safety, filtering and monitoring, Prevent, safer recruitment, child-on-child abuse, record keeping and multi-agency working.
For each checkpoint, users can record whether the requirement is in place, partly in place, not in place or not applicable, as well as adding the systems, records and evidence that support their judgement.
Requirements based on a ‘must’ within KCSIE are clearly identified. If one of these is marked as not in place, the relevant section is highlighted as a priority rather than allowing a statutory requirement to disappear within an overall score.
Turn the review into a clear action plan
As the review progresses, schools can build a clearer picture of both their strengths and the areas requiring further work.
Once completed, the tool can export an Excel workbook containing:
- a colour-coded heatmap across all 16 sections
- an action plan based on areas rated below secure
- the full set of review responses
- the evidence and records identified during the process
This provides safeguarding leaders and senior teams with something practical they can use to track improvements and support discussions with governors or trustees.
The review can also be shared between colleagues. Progress can be saved locally, passed to another member of the team and continued, making it easier for safeguarding, leadership and IT staff to contribute to the areas they know best.
Your safeguarding information stays on your device
The self-review runs on the user’s own computer rather than storing responses in the cloud.
Ratings, notes, named systems and referenced records aren’t sent to NetSupport or stored on a NetSupport server. This means schools can work through their arrangements and supporting evidence without submitting that information to us.
The tool is designed for use on Windows, Mac and Chromebook laptops or desktop computers.
