October is National Bullying Prevention Month in the US, a month-long event raising awareness around bullying and prevention strategies, and promoting kindness, acceptance and inclusion.
The campaign was founded In 2006 by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center – initially as a week-long event that shifted to a month-long campaign in 2020. PACER explains, they founded the campaign because: “Historically, bullying had been viewed as ‘a childhood rite of passage’ that ‘made kids tougher,’ but the reality has always been that bullying can leave devastating and often long-term effects such as a loss of self-esteem, increased anxiety, and depression for those involved.”
There are many ways to get involved, such as registering your school/organisation as a ‘Champion Against Bullying’, responding to daily prompts to reflect on the role we all play in creating a kinder world through PACER’s 31 Questions, sharing and using resources, taking a pledge to support bullying prevention and promoting awareness and action through platforms such as social media.
You can also take part in ‘Unity Day’, where people are invited to wear orange on Wednesday 22nd October 2025 as a visible message against bullying, and share photos with the hashtag #UnityEveryday. Why orange? “This vibrant statement becomes a conversation starter, showing support for students who have been bullied and for bullying prevention”.
