The world is constantly evolving to help friends, families, colleagues and companies stay connected. Social media is a vital tool in many aspects of life and is becoming an increasingly important role within any company. Not having any social media presence can be detrimental to a company and having a messy or confused social media presence can be just as damaging!

It’s not unusual for an organisation to have a dedicated social media role being filled by individuals or teams who “know” the ins and outs of social media and how to manipulate it to work for their employers.

NetSupport is no different! We have several social media savvy members of the team including Community Engagement Manager Kat Cauchi, Head of Education Mark Anderson and of course, our CEO Al Kingsley. These guys have been carefully and successfully growing their social channels to grow within Edu Twitter and have become major voices in the EdTech community. Plus, we also have a marketing department full of graphic designers who work together with the social media coordinator to ensure all NetSupport’s socials keep our followers up to date with the latest news, feature updates and events.

Scheduling can save your social life

So, with so many social media experts on board, we thought it would be a great opportunity to offer some hints and tips about managing social media as a job.

First, we spoke to Kat Cauchi. Kat is NetSupport’s community engagement manager, editor of R.I.S.E. Magazine, ReallySchool product manager and host of the ‘Of Primary Importance’ podcast. Plus, she currently has over 3,000 followers on Twitter. Here are some of Kat’s top tips:

Separation: Keep your professional social media accounts separate from your personal ones. (Kat went on to mention that she has a work laptop and mobile phone, therefore any accounts related to work are only connected to those devices, once the workday is over and the laptop is put away, then her work-facing social media accounts are too.)

Scheduling: Scheduling is key! Scheduling key posts in advance such as event announcements, awareness days, update releases etc. can save you so much time and means you can have a post for it scheduled for the best time for your audience without having to remember to do it ‘live’.

Question: When thinking about posting on social media, ask yourself:

– Why am I sharing/responding?

– What do I want the outcome of this to be?

– Will it be useful/helpful/purposeful?

You may even find that you either don’t need to post or that it can wait until later.

Use tech solutions to help you manage your output

We’ve already had so many fantastic tips! Let’s keep it rolling with more advice from Mark Anderson, our Head of Education who currently has an impressive 58,000 followers on Twitter!

Here are Mark’s quick-fire top tips:

  • Use Grammarly
  • Use ChatGPT to help you be creative
  • Use a professional scheduling tool such as Buffer or Sprout
  • Be different
  • Share at peak times
  • Use an image (posts with images get 70% more engagement than those without)
  • Show personality
  • Engage with your target audience
  • Always credit others.

Keep those posts coming

Whether you’re managing social media accounts for a company, on behalf of a self-employed individual or even for your own business, it’s always a great idea to take a look at what’s going on around you. The world of social media changes in a blink, something that is trending and going viral one day will be forgotten the next.

Taking NetSupport’s social media presence as an example, we currently have accounts for Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube with an aim to delve into the world of TikTok, too! No matter where you look on our social media, you’ll see that there is always a new post for our followers to enjoy almost every day. We rotate a mix of events, awareness days, news items and product features to keep our feeds fresh and engaging, which is why we’ve amassed a healthy 7,000 follower count on Twitter!

So there you have it, top tips, hints and advice about managing social media as a job from people who are currently doing it! Have you got any top tips?
