What is Eating Disorders Awareness Week?
Established by Beat, Eating Disorders Awareness Week was created with the goal of raising awareness of the severity of eating disorders and how early intervention and support can be crucial to recovery. With around 1.25 million people in the UK struggling with an eating disorder, it’s imperative to combat this to help save lives and encourage people to seek help and treatment sooner rather than later.
This year, Beat is aiming to ensure that those suffering from an eating disorder are not alone with the theme of getting through it Twogether. Since this issue can affect any gender, this year includes a special emphasis on supporting men struggling as around 1 in 4 people struggling with an eating disorder are men.
To help support those suffering and learn more about the issue, there are several helpful resources and helplines to seek advice and support. Get involved online to show that we’re all in this Twogether by using the hashtag #EDAW2023.
