This week (4th – 8th March) is National Apprenticeship Week! Apprentices, employers and training providers across the country are celebrating apprenticeships and how they benefit individuals, businesses, local communities and our economy.
For many people, an apprenticeship can be the pathway to a great career. You gain real experience of the world of work, learn so much about your chosen subject and earn money whilst doing it.
Three years ago, my A-level exams were fast approaching and, whilst I knew I didn’t want to go to university, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do once I left Sixth Form. I spent a lot of time looking into my options and eventually decided an apprenticeship sounded like a great fit for me.
I had a real interest in marketing and graphic design and was keen to learn more but sitting in a classroom and writing long essays wasn’t for me. With an apprenticeship I still have the opportunity to study and learn more but in a more practical setting and my assignments can be completed in a style and time frame that works for me.
I would encourage anyone who’s unsure about what to do next to look into apprenticeships and see all that they can offer. I have now completed my Level 3 qualification and have moved on to Level 4 Digital Marketing at NetSupport. Choosing to do an apprenticeship was the best decision I made. I’ve gained so much knowledge and so many new skills, some I never dreamt of learning, and I’ve gained so much more confidence in my work and in myself.
