Hi, my name is Sophie, I’m 21, and I’m doing a level 3 apprenticeship in business administration. I went straight from school to university where I studied psychology, and then graduated with a 2:1, but when I came to apply for jobs after uni, I found that my lack of work experience wasn’t getting me any responses. I then thought about apprenticeships, thinking that they may be better to ease me into a workplace environment. I’ve been working with the City College Peterborough communities’ team since August, and it’s been really beneficial to me. It’s helped me gain confidence, people skills and helped me network with many local groups and organisations, which could shape my next steps after this apprenticeship.
In my day-to-day role, I do a variety of different things. Interacting with the general public and assisting them, promoting college courses, meeting with various different organisations and working with them on initiatives to support the area, and also attending meetings for local groups to discuss issues. The unpredictable nature of my job role also allows me the perfect amount of time to work on my NVQ. On quiet days, I can crack on with my work, which has allowed me to progress well through my qualification.
I recently designed a leaflet describing all of the work we do in the community hub where I work that has been edited and improved and has now been distributed to homes in the area. I’m excited to see the impact that this will have on our work at the hub, and will update you on this in my next blog post.
