My first week was very easy, I would do the simple tasks to ease into the work and I started to learn that everyone in the office was very kind and was there to help me. During this week, I was told to take on a few extra jobs in different departments to help and develop my communication skills and knowledge of how other departments of the college work.
On my second week of my apprenticeship I started to understand my roles and responsibilities, and I started to be given more work to do. I started prepping rooms to interview for the recruitment officers, arranging interviews and making many phone calls. I soon learnt that these are some of my most vital objectives of the job to help the recruitment officers.
After I had got the hang of prepping the rooms for interviews, I would then shadow the recruitment officers to learn how to do interviews. From watching the recruitment officers, I learnt that all the interviews were relaxed and friendly for all the interviewees.
Six months came by and I was more aware of our targets and constantly throwing ideas out on how to reach these targets, as well as being able to consistently do my job correctly and promptly. Being six months in also meant that I would be having my final probation 1-1 meeting and to continue to have my 1-1 meetings with my line manager for my monthly review.
Regular 1-1 meetings with my line manager are mandatory and at first I was worried because I had never attended a 1-1 meeting before but after completing my first, I then got used to it. Each meeting consisted of appraisal and some feedback on how I was doing which did help me progress through the following months.
